Our first podcast – the Panama Hat, Bolivian bowlers and Viking helmets

Welcome to Fun with Hats. This blog site is the home of the Fun with Hats history podcast presented by Pete and Paul. And this blog introduces episode 1 which you can listen to here.

So first things first, this is not a fashion podcast. If you knew us, this would come as no surprise. We are two of the least fashion conscious people you could ever meet.

Fun with Hats is intended to be an alternative and slightly quirky route into history, with some (hopefully) interesting stories about hats.

In our first podcast episode we talk about how the Panama hat got its name, the origin of bowler hats in Bolivia and debate whether the Vikings really had horns on their helmets.

We also introduce a couple of ‘Random Hat Facts’. We find out where the phrase ‘hat-trick’ comes from. We also discuss Paul Young’s cover of the Marvin Gaye song ‘Wherever I lay my hat’.

If you have any interesting hat stories you’d like to share we would love to hear them. We may even add them to the line up for a future episode.
